How to Set Up Simple Voice Chat on a Minecraft Server
Install the plugin or mod, add a port in the Network tab, and set that number as port in voicechat-server.properties. Voice runs over UDP on its own port, so it won't work on the game port.
Every player who wants to talk also needs the Simple Voice Chat mod on their client, matching the server's Minecraft version. That's true even when the server runs the Paper plugin. Players without it can still play.
1. Install
Download the build for your platform and Minecraft version from Modrinth and upload it in Files of the Crunchy.Host panel:
| Platform | File | Folder |
|---|---|---|
| Paper, Spigot, Purpur | voicechat-bukkit-*.jar |
plugins |
| Fabric | voicechat-fabric-*.jar |
mods |
| Forge | voicechat-forge-*.jar |
mods |
| NeoForge | voicechat-neoforge-*.jar |
mods |
Fabric also needs Fabric API. Restart the server once so it creates the config.
2. Add a port and set it
- In Network, add a port and note its number, for example
25613. - Stop the server and open
voicechat-server.properties. It's inplugins/voicechat/on Paper andconfig/voicechat/on mod loaders. - Change the port and save:
port=25613
- Start the server. The log shows which port the voice server started on.
Leave bind_address and voice_host empty. Changing them is the most common reason voice stops connecting.
3. Test
Join with the mod installed and press V. If the menu opens with settings, you're connected. From the console, voicechat test <player> checks someone else's connection.
Other settings in the same file include max_voice_distance (default 48 blocks), enable_groups, and force_voice_chat, which kicks players who join without the mod.
Not connecting
- Shows disconnected:
portdoesn't match the Network tab, or the server wasn't restarted. - Voice server fails to start: something else is using that port. Add a new one.
- Only some players fail: their client mod is missing or built for another Minecraft version.
Simple Voice Chat and Plasmo Voice don't work together. Pick one.
