How to Fix "Missing Profile Public Key" on a Minecraft Server

· 1 min read

The server rejects players who join without a chat signing key. Set enforce-secure-profile=false in server.properties and restart.

Why it happens

Since 1.19, clients sign chat messages with a key tied to their Microsoft account. enforce-secure-profile, on by default, kicks anyone without one. That's every cracked or offline client, and occasionally a real account whose game failed to fetch its key at launch. For the latter, restarting the game and launcher is enough.

Fix

  1. Stop the server in the Crunchy.Host panel.
  2. In Files, open server.properties and set:
enforce-secure-profile=false
  1. Start the server.

Chat from players without a key is unsigned. It can't be reported to Mojang, and players with Only Show Secure Chat turned on won't see it. To remove chat reporting entirely, including the "chat messages can't be verified" popup, install NoChatReports or AntiPopup.
